Two New Teams in IPL 2011

The two new cities in the IPL are Pune and Cochin which will be part of the 4th season of the IPL 2011. The Indian Premier League (IPL) Twenty-20 Cricket presently includes 8 teams or “franchises” consisting of players from different countries. But from the next session of IPL, i.e, IPL-IV, there will be 10 teams inclucding Pune and Cochin. These two new Franchisees of the IPL were auctioned at the ITC Park Sheraton in Chennai on 21st Mar 2010. Sahara Group was the highest bidder at $370 million (Rs 1702 Cr) to bag Pune and Rendezvous Sports bid $333.33 million (Rs. 1533 Cr) to get Cochin as the two new franchisees to make the Indian Premier League (IPL) a 10-team affair from the 2011 season.

The 8 Franchisees which were bought earlier are as follow:-
1) Mumbai Indians, Captain- Sachin Tendulkar, Owner- Mukesh Ambani (Reliance Industries), Price $ 112.9 m (Rs. 441 Cr).
2) Royal Challengers Bangalore, Captain- Anil Kumble, Owner- Vijay Mallya (UB Group), Bid Price- $ 111.6 m (Rs. 440 Cr).
3) Deccan Chargers, Captain- Adam Gilchrist, Owner- Deccan Chronicle (Venkat Ram Reddy), Bid Price- $107.0 m (Rs. 422 Cr).
4) Chennai Super Kings, Captain- Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Owner- India Cements (N.Srinivasan), Bid Price- $91.90 m (Rs. 359 Cr).
5) Delhi Daredevils, Captain- Gautam Gambhir, Owner-GMR Holdings (Grandhi Mallikarjuna Rao), Bid Price- $ 84.0 m (Rs. 331 Cr).
6) Kings XI Punjab, Captain- Kumar Sangakkara, Owner- Ness Wadia (Bombay Dyeing), Priety Zinta, Mohit Burman (Dabur) and Karan Paul (Apeejay Surendera Group), Bid Price- $76.0 m (Rs. 300 Cr).
7) Kolkata Knight Riders, Captain- Saurav Ganguly, Owner- Shahrukh Khan, Bid Price- $75.1 m (Rs. 296 Cr).
